Getting to Madrid Barajas Airport

Road Systems

The M-40 is the ring road around Madrid. The A-2 is the Madrid-Barcelona highway, which can be used to access the airport from the centre of the city. The A-1 is the Madrid-Burgos highway.

The M-12 is a north-south toll motorway that offers direct access to Terminal 4; the M-14 Trunk road has direct access to Terminals 1, 2 and 3; the M-13 is a toll motorway that links the M-12 and the M-14. The R-2 is the Madrid-Guadalajara toll motorway.

Driving Directions

The airport is signposted on major roads in the city. Journey time from central Madrid is 25 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic.

From Central Madrid:

From the centre, take c/de Alcala out of town to the A-2 roundabout. From there, take the A-2 highway in the direction of 'M-30 Norte' and 'Norte', travelling on the road for about eight kilometres (five miles). Look for the 'Aeropuerto' signs and follow them in the direction of the airport. Take Exit 12 in the direction of 'Aeropuerto'. After the change, the road is the N100 / M-14. Follow signs to Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Those heading for Terminal 4 should go past the other terminals, taking the M-13, then go onto the M-12 and head for Terminal 4.

From the M-40 South

For Terminals 1, 2 and 3, if arriving in the airport area from the south, take Exit 9A for the M-14 towards those terminals.

For Terminal 4, if arriving in the airport area from the south, take Exit 8 for the M-12 towards the terminal.

From the M40 North

For Terminal 4, one option for those arriving in the airport area on the M-40 from the north is to take Exit 2A.

This goes to the R-2, and Exit 3 leads onto the M-12 for Terminal 4.

Exit 2B is another option, leading to the M-11, from which Exit 7 leads to the M-12 and Terminal 4.

For Terminals 1, 2 and 3, take Exit 2B onto the M-11, then leave that road via Exit 3, which leads to the M14 and the older terminals.
