Formed 8/2/94 by ex-Frontier (FL) staff. Started ops on 5/7/94. Attempted merger with Western Pacific failed in 1997. 8% stake acquired during 1998 by major stockholder of Vanguard AL. Entered Chapter 11 bankrupcy protection on 10/4/08, continuing ops. 79.9% stake to be taken by investment firm Purseus LLC (announced 25/7/08); separate financing from Republic Airways Holdings, Credit Suisse Securities, and AQR Capital announced 4/8/08. 100% planned to be purchased by Republic Airways (main unsecured creditor) for $108.8m (announced 22/6/09, approved 13/7/09 by bankrupcy judge) despite counter-offer from Southwest (at $113.6m announced 30/7/09, increased to $170m on 10/8/09, but declined on 13/8/09). Exited Chapter 11 on 1/10/09, becoming a wholly-owned subsidiary of Republic Airways Holdings. Moved corporate HQ to Indianapolis during 2010 (along with Republic Airways and Midwest Airlines). Decided to keep the Frontier name (instead of switching to Midwest), announced 13/4/10. Announced 8/11/11 that Republic Airways Holdings intends to sell Frontier (at an unspecified date).
