Formed as LOT to take-over ops of Aero & Aerolot. Started using tradename LOT Polish Airlines on 1/1/96. 37.6% stake acquired by SAirGroup/Swissair in 1999, reduced to 25.1% by 2001. Integrated Qualiflyer group in 2001, Star Alliance in 2003. IPO expected in mid-2005, cancelled (Polish government keeping a 68% stake). Formed low-cost subsidiary Centralwings on 1/2/05. Purchase of 51% stake being negociated by Lufthansa in 1/08, allowed to lapse. Formed division LOT Charters in 6/09 (with 1 767-300ER, 6 737-400). Partial acquisition talks with THY failed in 5/12. Expected to transfer all its assets (mostly logo/marketing and airport slots) to EuroLOT during 2013H1. Majority stake offers expected in mid-2013 from Air-Berlin, British Airways or Singapore Airlines.
