Most long-range flights to South Africa operated for Trek AW on behalf of Luxavia, a Luxembourg company, during apartheid regime. Proposed alliance in 1961-1962 with Lufthansa, Air France, Sabena, TAI, UAT, KLM under the Air Union name was abandoned. 13% stake taken in 1992 by Lufthansa. 12.1% acquired in 2002 by Switzerland's Panalpina, re-sold in 7/12 to Luxembourg government.

Formed with assistance from Scottish Avn. Started ops in 1948. Ceased ops in 9/48 and reorganized in 1949 by Seaboard & Western (30%, later 60% from 3/3/50) as a cash-cow charged enormous hourly rate for the C-46. Reorganized in 1961 by the Luxembourg government with main focus on European short/medium-haul routes.
