Formed by Libyan government with assistance from Italy's Blue Panorama. Reorganized 31/10/07 as a subsidiary of state-owned Libyiah Afriqiyah Aviation Holding Company (along Libyan Airline), both airlines expected to be merged 11/10, postponed. Suspended most ops on 5/3/11 due to civil war, all aircraft grounded 17/3/11 after UN resolution calling for a no-fly zone.
